Could She Get Into Modelling?

Our little smiley munchkin, Keira Eliza Lee, could be a child model, don't you think?

Big eyes? a

Gorgeous smile? a

Milky complexion? a

"Mixed" look? a

Happy, bubbly and loves to pose? a

Loves the camera? a

Photographs well on camera and video? a

So, Mami Poko? FrisoGold? Heinz Baby? FisherPrice? Johnsons? and other baby brands... why are you not calling??!!?? 

[Reminder to self: Perhaps hubs and I should get our little one active in getting connected with the model casting scene first in order to get a start for that to happen? After all, it's all about Marketing one's self first before anything can happen.] 

Slightly more than a year ago, we did ask around, but the fact that we reside in Penang seems to be a major factor. There are not much opportunities to explore on the island for baby/kid models. All the opportunities are in Kuala Lumpur, so it seems! That's where the action is I gues.

So, we took a teeny-weeny step to test-market by meeting up with a casting agent in Bangsar when we were in the capital to attend our daughter's godmother's wedding in February 2014. Just to get a look-see-feel of it.

Sure, they took some great headshots of our Keira at 8 months old for their files/records and said they will call us, but did reiterate that the fact that we lived in Penang is definitely an issue... 

 

... and of course, that was it! We have not heard anything since.

More than a year has passed and I no longer await anxiously by the phone for any call from the one casting agent we met last year, but I am still tempted to test the market for her again.

On the cuteness barometer, our baby is definitely in the "sangat panas" (damn hot!) scale. There's no doubt about it!!! It's not just my hubs and I that think so, thousands of others think the same as well. Eherm, about their own babies of course *lol*

Our little munchkin is turning 2 years old next month (in 6 more weeks, to be precise), and in my mind, I believe it's a good age to get her started in the industry IF there are any opportunities available for her as a child model, big or small. After all, she LOVES the camera and the camera LOVES her, so why not?

So, here come the million-dollar-questions in a row: Does "hotness" count? How do people get their little ones started into the baby modelling business? What's the first step? What are the names are some of the better agencies in Malaysia or Singapore? What is a good age to get started? Do parents need to be connected to the "right people" first in order to get their little ones into the industry? How does it all work? ... I seriously want to know how parents breakthrough the barriers and get their kids into print or TV commercials, as it does seem like a fun industry to be in, especially if your child LOVES the camera. Do share if you have any tips!

My Little "Punjabi Princess"

We attended a relative's wedding this weekend in Penang. For her mehndi or berinai night, which took place on April 10, 2015 (the night before the bersanding ceremony), the theme was Punjabi attire.

Hearing that, I could not resist dressing up my little princes up in the little Punjabi suit I had bought for her a few months back during a work trip to Chennai, India. Surprisingly, the attire that I thought would be loose was just nicely fitting. Oh no, good thing too that I tried it on her for this occasion, otherwise she won't be able to wear it if it was any later. Nevertheless, we managed to squeeze her into it with minimal pain. It's the taking it off, later that night, that was the heartache as we had to cut it off her cos her head and arms could not slip out.

Keira Scribbles

The past two months, all Keira wants to do is grab a pen or pencil that's laying around and scribble!!! Yes - scribble, scribble, scribble...

Although, I'm thankful that she does not draw on walls or the flooring or any other surface. She looks for paper and draws on paper - any paper she can find, whether it's a plain white paper or a namecard or a newspaper. 

Such a thoughtful little darling ain't she for not scribbling on the walls or floor! :) Nevertheless, my concern is still the fact that at her age, holding a pen and pencil would be much too dangerous so both Kevin and i are extra careful these days on where we leave our pens and pencils at home.

I did the next best thing... Went to the store the other day to buy toddler-friendly giant crayons and a drawing block so that my little girl may experiment with colors and expand her creativity. She LOVES it as the crayon is much easier for her to grasp in her hand and swirl around to scribble. And she holds not one, but multiple crayons at a time as well.

She takes the drawing block and crayons on the bed or on the floor (practically anywhere and everywhere!) with her, and while watching her favorite shows she scribbles to her heart's content until she tires out... Oooh, I can't wait to get her started on painting soon! :)

Checking Out St. Christopher's International Primary School

For months, Kevin and I have been talking, talking and talking about checking out possible local pre-schools for Keira. Yes, the keyword here is "talking", cos that was all we talked about doing just that, but no opportunity to take action.

Well, the talking ended this week when we took that first step and got a little early off work during lunch break to bring our baby with us for our visit to St. Christopher's International Primary School. 

I had called the school (my old school, yay!), located at Nunn Road, in advance and set an appointment with the Admin to meet and have a look-see of the place while classes were on. Although they have their special scheduled Open Days for such visitations, but the lady was nice to entertain my request and agreed to have us come by for a look-see.

I spent my early and primary years at St. Christopher's School, so I was no stranger to the place. Although it has changed alot since my days there (including the cost of the fees of course!), but it still feels the same when I stepped into the compound - warm, welcoming and, most importantly, safe!

We wanted to bring Keira along so that we can gauge her reaction towards the place (whether she liked it or not), and we were waiting for some sign from her along the lines of "this is it" or "I want to go here" kind of signals. But no such indication was given. She got excited when she saw the white kids running about during change of class, but she did not show any further signs of excitement during the short visit. Hmmm...

St. Chris is definitely not crossed off our list, but taking note on what the Admin lady said, we should look at get Keira enrolled into playschool first before transitioning her into the Early Years program, so that she gets accustomed to being away from home for a few hours a day... 

So, our hunt still continues... playschools!!!

Playtime With Her Reflection

It does not matter where we are and what time it is... even at the shopping mall doing last minute shopping... the moment our little munchkin, Keira Eliza Lee, spots a mirror (and I mean, any mirror of any size), it's time of fun for her and her reflection!!!

What's So Funny, Keira?

Who says a 1 year 8 month old child can't get jokes? 

How many toddlers do you know that age can attentively watch a movie/show without being distracted to turn away, not sit still and play with something else?

How many little ones do you know that has laughter so addictive that your heart just melts? 

I'm sure there are many out there, but I know of one little munchkin - our darling little Keira Eliza!!! And the best part is that I HAVE PROOF to back my statement!

Mom Turns 60!

February 5, 2015 was a memorable date for us as my mom turned 60! 

But because it fell on a Thursday, we had to postpone the surprise bash for her to the Saturday of the coming weekend - February 7, 2015. On the actual day, we just bought her a cake and sang her happy birthday, and left it at that.

To make it more meaningful, Kevin, Keira and I hosted the small surprise dinner for her at ParkRoyal Penang in Batu Ferringhi where we had secretly invited immediate family members to attend. 

From the first time she tasted the food of Saturday buffet spread at Parkroyal Penang many years back, my mom had always wanted to go back there. The lobsters were to die for! 

So we figured what better timing to take her back there than on her 60th birthday!

So secretly, Kevin and I booked a few tables at the Tamarind Brasserie a few days before her birthday and had some decos of balloons etc stashed away secretly awaiting the evening of the dinner. She was indeed very surprised!!!
